The unlucky planeload of Continental fliers whose aircraft was stuck all night in Minnesota with a broken toilet was just the latest in a series of high-profile incidents that have spurred consumer advocates to push (once again) for a passenger bill of rights.

New fees for choosing specific seats on Southwest, B.A.

Fliers are getting used to being charged extra for everything. But the nickel-and-diming is reaching the last holdout of airline freebies: your choice of seat. Starting October 7, British Airways will let you reserve the exact seat you want within economy class for a fee of about $60 each way.

Hard as it may be to stomach, the era when free in-flight meals were the standard for all passengers is gone forever (though, of course, many fliers found the meals themselves hard to stomach). But as a couple of new Bing Travel articles point out, we could be entering a new era of airborne cuisine — though what you gain in quality will be offset by your having to pay for it.
